In a meeting held on Monday, February 26, Ali Ghasemzadeh, the Mayor of Isfahan, engaged in discussions with Paola Amadei, the Italian Ambassador to Iran.
Iran (IMNA) - During the meeting, Mayor Ghasemzadeh underscored Isfahan's rich cultural heritage, emphasizing its global significance and historical ties with Italy. He also highlighted the sister city relationship between Isfahan and Florence, which has been in place for approximately 25 years.
Mayor Ghasemzadeh expressed his desire for the relationship between the two cities to remain active and dynamic, noting that sister city ties facilitate broader interactions beyond official diplomatic channels. He envisioned exchanges involving cultural, sports, trade, and scientific groups, leveraging the cultural affinities and similarities between Iran and Italy, including the shared colors in their national flags.
Ghasemzadeh described Isfahan as a multifaceted city, boasting 16 universities and numerous research centers, including the Isfahan Science and Technology Town. The city's industrial sector has benefited from Italian collaboration, particularly in the steel industry. Additionally, Isfahan is renowned for its vibrant artistic scene, with 300 ongoing projects and 100,000 individuals involved in artistic production.
The Mayor emphasized Isfahan's historical significance, with 1,900 hectares dedicated to historical sites featuring valuable structures from various periods of Iranian civilization. He noted the successful collaboration between Iranian and Italian restorers in preserving historical sites, such as the Jameh Mosque, Ali Qapu Palace, and Hasht Behesht Palace.
Ghasemzadeh highlighted the city's hospitable nature, citing the long-standing peaceful coexistence of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities. He extended an invitation to Italian artists to participate in Isfahan's international events, including the International Children and Young Adults Film Festival, the Popak International Painting Festival, and the Khandestan Comedy Theater Festival.
