Beirut Erupts in Grief as Thousands Gather for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's Funeral

Beirut was filled with sorrow and defiance as large crowds gathered to bid farewell to Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, transforming his funeral into a powerful display of unity.

Iran (IMNA) - The Lebanese capital is hosting an unprecedented international gathering, with world leaders, resistance figures, and supporters honoring the legacy of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and his comrade.

The funeral ceremony is attracting attendees from various nations, all converging in Lebanon to pay their respects. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the longtime leader of Hezbollah, was martyred in a massive Israeli air attack on September 27, 2024.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Beirut early Sunday morning to participate in the funeral. Upon his arrival, he reflected on the resilience of the Lebanese people: "More than four months ago, when I entered Beirut airport, the city was full of smoke and fire, but I saw the Lebanese people more lively and resilient than ever." He also remarked on Israel's claims against Hamas and noted that "the enemy has retreated from southern Lebanon," emphasizing the stability and progress in the region.

A significant number of mourners gathered at the martyrdom site of Nasrallah in Dahiyeh, Beirut. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also arrived early Sunday to attend the ceremony. He stated that he was there on behalf of the Iranian government and people to honor "two heroes of the Islamic resistance" who made sacrifices to elevate their cause.

As Lebanese citizens began to gather at Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium for the funerals of Nasrallah and his deputy Sayyed Hashim Safieddine, President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a tribute on social media, calling them "the valiant sons" of Lebanon. In both Arabic and Persian, he praised their dedication to defending the dignity of the Islamic community.

The funeral is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees, marking one of Lebanon's largest funerals in recent history. With dignitaries from 79 countries anticipated to attend, including high-ranking officials from Iran, security measures have been heightened throughout Beirut.
