Iran Set to Unveil Three New Satellites on National Space Technology Day

The Islamic Republic of Iran is preparing to unveil three domestically-developed satellites—upgraded models of the Pars-1 and Pars-2 remote-sensing satellites, along with the Navak communications satellite—during a ceremony on February 2, coinciding with National Space Technology Day.

Iran (IMNA) - The event will take place at the Iranian Ministry of Information and Communication Technology in Tehran, with notable attendees including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Minister of Information and Communication Technology Sattar Hashemi, and Head of the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) Hossein Salariyeh.

The upgraded Pars-1 satellite features significant improvements over its predecessor, while the Pars-2 offers enhanced imaging accuracy, achieving an 8-meter resolution in color and 4 meters in black and white. The Navak satellite is designed to bolster telecommunications capabilities at high altitudes and will be tested in an elongated elliptical orbit for the first time.

In addition to the unveiling, an exhibition showcasing the achievements of Iranian researchers in aerospace technologies is expected to accompany the ceremony. Salariyeh has indicated that Iran's space program is expanding rapidly, with 25 satellites currently under construction and plans for two launches before the end of the Iranian calendar year on March 20. Notably, eight homegrown satellites are ready for launch.

Despite facing Western sanctions, Iran has made significant advancements in its civilian space program and is recognized as one of the top ten nations capable of developing and launching satellites. Recent milestones include the successful launch of the Nour-3 imaging satellite by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force on September 27, 2024, and earlier this year, the Mahda research satellite was sent into space using the domestically developed Simorgh satellite launch vehicle.
