Iran Voices Support for Venezuela Amid U.S. Sanctions

Tehran has expressed its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and government in response to what it describes as malign interventions and unilateral coercive measures led by the United States.

Iran (IMNA) - This statement was made by Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismaeil Baghaei on the social media platform X, where he congratulated Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on his inauguration ceremony.

Baghaei stated, "Congratulations to President NicolasMaduro on his inauguration into office as President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," wishing him success in serving his nation and expressing eagerness to collaborate with the newly elected government to enhance the extensive bilateral ties between Iran and Venezuela.

The support comes as Maduro was sworn in for his third consecutive term following electoral authorities' announcement that he won the July 2024 presidential election with 51 percent of the votes, defeating opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who garnered 44.2 percent. During his oath-taking before parliament, Maduro emphasized that his new term would focus on establishing a "period of peace" and working towards a stable and prosperous future for all Venezuelans.
