Iran Official Draws Parallels Between California Fires and Gaza Conflict

Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs has likened the devastation caused by wildfires in California to the destruction in the Gaza Strip, drawing parallels between the "wrath of nature" and the "savagery of Israel." This comparison comes as former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed sympathy with Californians affected by the ongoing wildfires in a post on his social media account.

Iran (IMNA) - Zarif noted that the grim footage from California reminded him of the ravaged homes, schools, and hospitals in Gaza. He emphasized the importance of sympathizing with Californians who have lost everything, particularly those who have supported Gazans who suffered under Israeli actions.

The wildfires in Southern California, which began on January 7, 2025, have resulted in significant destruction, with at least 10 fatalities reported and nearly 9,000 structures damaged or destroyed. Over 30,000 people have been evacuated, with many more under evacuation warnings.

Zarif's comments coincide with ongoing tensions in Gaza, where Israel's military operations have led to substantial casualties and infrastructure damage since October 2023. The situation in Gaza remains volatile, with international efforts to secure a ceasefire facing challenges due to U.S. support for Israe.

In a separate development, the U.S. has announced plans to propose an $8 billion arms deal to Israel, further complicating the conflict in Gaza. This move underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play, as Iran continues to voice its opposition to Israeli actions in the region.
