Iran, Turkey, and Russia Hold Key Talks on Syria in Doha

Top diplomats from Iran, Turkey, and Russia convened in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday for the Astana Format Foreign Ministers' Meeting to address the ongoing crisis in Syria.

Iran (IMNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the discussions as "very good," highlighting the constructive dialogue with his Russian and Turkish counterparts, Sergey Lavrov and Hakan Fidan, respectively. The meeting also included UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria, Geir O. Pedersen.

During the talks, the ministers exchanged views on significant issues affecting Syria, agreeing on the importance of respecting the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. They emphasized the necessity to initiate political dialogue between the Syrian government and legitimate opposition groups. Araghchi noted that Iran and Russia would consult with the Syrian government regarding these efforts.

These discussions come amid renewed violence in Syria following a period of relative calm. Clashes erupted on November 27 between Syrian forces and anti-regime armed groups in Aleppo's western countryside, escalating a conflict that has persisted for nearly 14 years. The Astana Format meetings aim to facilitate a resolution to this protracted crisis, involving key players working towards peace.
