Iran (IMNA) - In a live interview aired on Iranian state television Saturday night, Araghchi addressed various topics, including Iran's nuclear program and its regional policies. He emphasized that Iran would engage with the IAEA if it pursued a path of interaction; however, if the agency's Board of Governors were to issue a new resolution against Iran, the country would respond with new measures.
"Our behavior towards the IAEA is completely professional," Araghchi stated, asserting that the agency should focus on technical matters and refrain from political involvement. He also noted that Iran's stance was communicated to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi during his recent visit to Tehran.
Araghchi reiterated Iran's commitment to its obligations under both the IAEA and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). However, he acknowledged that Iran has halted its commitments under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in response to the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement and Europe's failure to address this situation. Nonetheless, he indicated that Iran is open to discussions regarding the JCPOA and that negotiations with European nations may commence soon.
In a separate part of the interview, Araghchi dismissed reports of a meeting between Iran’s UN ambassador and Elon Musk in New York, stating that such claims were exaggerated by American media. He explained that Iran chose not to immediately refute these reports as they deemed them unworthy of a response.
Regarding relations with the United States, Araghchi mentioned that Iran is awaiting the formation of a new American administration and its policy announcements. He asserted that Iran will adapt its strategies based on U.S. actions.
On regional issues, Araghchi highlighted his recent diplomatic efforts amid escalating tensions with Israel. He conveyed to regional leaders that Israel aims to intensify conflicts in the area and stressed the necessity for collective action to counter this threat, claiming positive outcomes from his discussions.
