Iran (IMNA) - His remarks came during a UN Security Council meeting convened at Iran's request to discuss the Israeli strikes against defensive targets in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam Provinces, which were intercepted by Iran's Air Defense Force.
"As a sovereign state, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its inherent right to respond at a time of its choosing to this act of aggression, a right clearly affirmed under Article 51 of the UN Charter," Iravani declared. He condemned the Israeli actions as "egregious and severe violations of international law" that resulted in the deaths of four Iranian servicemen and one civilian.
Iravani characterized these attacks as part of a broader pattern of Israeli aggression that threatens stability in the West Asia region. He cited recent military actions in Gaza and Lebanon as examples of Israel's ongoing violations.
The ambassador also criticized the United States for its unwavering support of Israel, claiming it has emboldened Tel Aviv to act with impunity. He described the U.S. as "complicit" in Israel's aggressive actions due to its provision of military support.
Iravani urged the international community and relevant institutions to take decisive action against such threats to restore peace and security. "The international community cannot—and must not—remain silent in the face of such violations," he asserted, highlighting the consequences of silence seen in Palestine and Lebanon.
He condemned those who justify Israel's actions as self-defense while calling for restraint from Iran, labeling such calls as shameless.
