Iran Warns of U.S. Involvement in Regional Conflict Amidst Hamas Leadership Turmoil

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stark warning regarding the potential for a large-scale war in the Middle East, asserting that such a conflict would inevitably draw the United States into the fray. "We do not want this at all," Araghchi emphasized during an interview with Turkish broadcaster NTV.

Iran (IMNA) - In the wake of the recent death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, confirmed by Hamas on Friday following an Israeli attack in Gaza's Rafah city, Araghchi stated that Sinwar's demise would not deter Hamas' activities but rather strengthen the movement's resolve and inspire Palestinian youth. He highlighted the risks of escalating conflict across various countries in the region, including Syria.

Araghchi criticized Israel's reliance on U.S. support, claiming, "Israel is not capable of existing without U.S. assistance" and accused Washington of enabling Israeli military actions in Gaza and Lebanon. He argued that if the U.S. possessed genuine political will, it could halt Israeli attacks. "For us, the U.S. is an ally of the Zionists," he stated.

He warned that the war could extend to Persian Gulf nations but expressed hope for diplomatic solutions, asserting that "we cannot leave everything to the will of one person in the Zionist regime."

Sinwar, who led Hamas since 2017 and was a key figure behind its military strategies, was killed during an Israeli operation targeting senior Hamas leaders. His death follows a series of high-profile eliminations within Hamas and has sparked mixed reactions among Israelis and Palestinians alike regarding its implications for future hostilities in Gaza.
