Iran (IMNA) - Pezeshkian arrived in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Thursday night to meet with high-ranking officials and participate in a commemoration ceremony for a renowned Turkmen poet. Before his departure, he informed reporters that discussions with the presidents of Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan were on his agenda. He stated, "The expansion of our relations with Turkmenistan has an impact on the development of the North-South Corridor."
He highlighted the significance of Iran's long and secure border with Turkmenistan in pursuing transit and economic cooperation, including investment in oil, gas, and electricity sectors. Pezeshkian expressed hope that this trip would yield important achievements in fostering cultural, economic, scientific, and expert communication.
During his visit, Pezeshkian is also set to attend the international conference titled "Interconnection of Times and Civilizations - The Basis of Peace and Development," commemorating the 300th anniversary of Makhtumgholi Faraghi. Upon his arrival at Ashgabat airport, he was welcomed by Rashid Meredov, Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with Iranian diplomats.
The Iranian president is scheduled to meet with Turkmenistan's national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin during this trip.
Accompanying Pezeshkian are several key ministers, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi, Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Mohammad Atabek, and Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Mohammad Reza Salehi Amiri.
This visit underscores Iran's commitment to strengthening ties with its neighbors while addressing regional challenges through cooperative initiatives.
