Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Pezeshkian described the current situation in the region as marked by "back-to-back incidents," referencing the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza that has now extended into Lebanon. He condemned Western nations, which claim to advocate for human rights, for backing Israel, stating that the regime "doesn’t adhere to any rule" and continues its campaign of killing.
“These self-proclaimed advocates of human rights tell us: ‘Why do you execute a murderer?’ This is while they should be asked: ‘Why don’t you say anything about the massacre of women and children?’” Pezeshkian remarked.
He emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims to thwart enemy plots, reiterating that the lack of cohesion has emboldened Israel to commit further atrocities. His comments came a day after the first anniversary of Israel’s war on Gaza.
According to a new report, the U.S. has provided over $22 billion in military aid to Israel over the past year. The conflict escalated after Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against Israel on October 7, 2023, in response to years of violence against Palestinians.
The ongoing Israeli offensive has resulted in over 41,909 Palestinian deaths, predominantly among women and children, with an additional 97,303 injured. Thousands more are missing and presumed dead under rubble. Since late last month, Israel has intensified its strikes on Lebanon, resulting in hundreds of casualties.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah has retaliated with numerous operations in response to Israeli aggression. According to Lebanon's Health Ministry, more than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks against Lebanon over the past year.
The Iranian president's remarks underscore Tehran's commitment to supporting Palestinian and Lebanese resistance against what it perceives as ongoing aggression from Israel and its allies.
