Iran (IMNA) - According to figures released by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) on Saturday, the jobless rate fell to **7.5%**, a reduction of **0.4%** compared to the same period last year.
The SCI noted that Iran's unemployment rate had already dropped **0.5%** year-on-year in the June quarter, reaching **7.7%**. In total, approximately **25.129 million** individuals from Iran's population aged 15 and older were employed during the September quarter, marking an increase of **444,000** from the same quarter in 2023.
However, about **38.066 million** people within the working age group of **16-64 years** were classified as economically inactive during this period, which is an increase of **411,000** from the previous year. The job market participation rate—indicating the percentage of people actively engaged in the labor force—stood at **41.7%**, up **0.1%** from the same time last year.
Youth unemployment remains a concern; the rate for those aged **16-24** was reported at **19.4%**, down **0.7%** from last year, while **14.8%** of individuals aged **18-35** were unemployed, reflecting a decline of **0.2%** from previous figures.
The SCI highlighted that the services sector accounted for the majority of jobs in Iran's economy at **52.1%**, followed by manufacturing at **33.3%** and agriculture at **14.5%**. In recent years, Iran has implemented plans to diversify its economy away from oil dependency amid U.S.-imposed sanctions on its energy sector, facilitating significant growth in manufacturing, mining, and agricultural activities, which has led to increased job opportunities for the youth.
