Iran (IMNA) - On Thursday, Germany's ambassador to Tehran, Markus Potzel, and Austrian envoy Wolfgang Dietrich Heim were separately called in to express Iran's discontent over what it termed “unacceptable measures” taken by their respective countries in summoning Iranian envoys regarding Operation True Promise II, according to Press TV.
During the meetings, Majid Nili Ahmadabadi, Director General of the Western Europe Department at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that the Islamic Republic is committed to defending its security. He stated that the Iranian Armed Forces' actions align with the principle of legitimate defense as outlined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and followed two months of self-restraint. Nili Ahmadabadi asserted that these measures were taken to help establish sustainable security in the region.
He further criticized the supportive positions of some European countries toward the Zionist regime, saying, “If the European parties had taken effective and practical measures, including severing financial and military support, they would have stopped the killing machine and genocide of the Israeli regime in time.”
The ambassadors assured they would convey Iran's protest to their respective governments.
On Tuesday night, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched hundreds of missiles at targets in the Tel Aviv area, claiming to have targeted “the heart of the occupied territories” in retaliation for the Israeli assassinations of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC general Abbas Nilforoushan.
The IRGC stated that this operation was consistent with Iran’s right to legitimate self-defense as per the United Nations Charter and was a direct response to escalating crimes backed by the United States against the people of Lebanon and Gaza. The operation specifically targeted air and radar bases as well as centers involved in planning attacks against resistance leaders and IRGC commanders.
This marks the second instance this year where Iran has launched missiles at occupied territories from its soil; during Operation True Promise in mid-April, Tehran struck several military targets following an Israeli attack on its embassy in Damascus.
