Retired Israeli General Warns of Israel's Potential Collapse Amid Ongoing Gaza Campaign

In an opinion piece, retired Israeli Major General Yitzhak Brik asserts that it is not Hamas that is collapsing, but Israel itself, as the military campaign in Gaza approaches its 11th month.

Iran (IMNA) - Brik argues that Israel's forces are weakening while Hamas has successfully replenished its ranks with new recruits, including 17- and 18-year-olds.

Brik warns that if Israel continues its strategy of repeatedly targeting the same locations in Gaza, it will not achieve the collapse of Hamas but rather face its own downfall. He highlighted the growing discontent among Israeli reservists, many of whom are "no longer consenting" to be redrafted, and noted that conscripted soldiers are becoming exhausted and losing essential training skills.

The Israeli regime, supported by the United States, initiated its military campaign in Gaza on October 7, 2023, in response to Hamas's Operation al-Aqsa Storm, which had caught Israeli military and intelligence services off guard. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently insisted that Hamas must be completely destroyed before considering an end to the conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of over 40,820 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, according to health officials in Gaza.

Recent reports indicate that Hamas has "rebuilt its capabilities" in northern Gaza and recruited approximately 3,000 new fighters. Observers note that the resurgence of resistance fighters in areas previously controlled by Israeli forces highlights the challenges Netanyahu faces in achieving his objective to "crush" Hamas. Additionally, he is confronted with mass protests within Israel advocating for a ceasefire and a hostage release deal with the Palestinian resistance movement.
