Iran defense minister nominee unveils proposals for sector's further development

In a move aimed at bolstering the Islamic Republic's military capabilities, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, who has been picked by Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian to run the Ministry of Defense, has presented his plans to the parliament for further development of the country's defense sector.

Iran (IMNA) -The proposals outlined Nasirzadeh's visions for expanding Iran's aerial and naval warfare capabilities, missile technology, air defense prowess, and aerospace division.

According to the plans, Nasirzadeh aims to enhance the Air Force by designing and producing "jump jets" capable of vertical takeoff and landing, as well as improving artificial intelligence technology across the country's drone squad. He also proposed developing heavy multi-mission destroyers through the acquisition of relevant technology and enhancing production of high-speed vessels capable of launching cruise missiles.

To develop the missile sector, Nasirzadeh suggested improving the country's capacity to produce various types of ballistic, cruise, and air defense missiles with diverse ranges and capabilities. The official also advocated for additional improvements in space technology, including the development of satellite launchers and the placement of over 20 satellites into orbit in the future.

The plans also involve leveraging defense diplomacy to facilitate the export of defense products, increasing interaction with neighboring countries, as well as Latin American and African states, and creating necessary platforms to double the export of defense products.

Iran has been relying on domestic endeavors and know-how amid sanctions to make significant advances in enhancing the self-sufficiency of its Armed Forces. The country has repeatedly emphasized that its military capabilities are entirely for defensive purposes and are not subject to negotiation.
