Iran (IMNA) - He also took a swipe at the US and European members of the UN Security Council for not addressing the root cause of instability in West Asia, blaming Israel for the region's problems.

Meanwhile, British politician Lammy called on Iran to exercise restraint following the assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh, warning of disastrous repercussions if tensions escalate between Israel and Lebanon. He described the killing as a setback in Gaza ceasefire talks.

Iran's foreign minister has left Tehran to attend an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Executive Committee in Saudi Arabia, where they will discuss Haniyeh's assassination on Iranian soil. The meeting was convened after intense diplomatic efforts by Iran and its allies.

Haniyeh was martyred alongside his bodyguard in an attack on July 31, during a visit to Iran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has warned Israel of a "harsh response" for Haniyeh's assassination, calling it Iran's duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader's blood.
