Iran (IMNA) - The Knesset voted 68-9 on Wednesday to reject the creation of a Palestinian state, citing it as an "existential danger" to Israel.
Kan'ani took to social media to condemn the move, saying it was a threat not only to the Palestinian nation but also to international peace and security. He accused the international community, particularly the United Nations, of inaction in securing Palestinian rights and enforcing international resolutions against Israel.
The Palestinian National Initiative's secretary-general, Mustafa Barghouti, also condemned the move, calling it a rejection of peace with Palestinians and a declaration of the death of the Oslo agreement. The Oslo Accords, signed in 1993 between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel, aimed to establish a viable and sovereign Palestinian state.
The Knesset's decision follows a previous vote in February that rejected Palestinian statehood. However, several countries have officially recognized a Palestinian state, including Spain, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, and Armenia. Over 140 UN member states have recognized Palestine's statehood over the past four decades.
