Polling stations initially opened at 8:00 a.m. local time and were set to close at 6:00 p.m., but the Interior Ministry announced the extension amid reports of strong turnout. The possibility of further extensions until midnight was also raised, mirroring the scenario in the first round of voting.
According to Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for the national election headquarters, voter participation has increased compared to the first round. By 5:00 p.m., over 14 million people had cast their ballots, two million more than in the initial round.
The voting process is proceeding smoothly at more than 58,000 polling stations across the country, officials said. Representatives from both candidates, Saeed Jalili and Masoud Pezeshkian, reported no issues at the polling stations during a briefing on Iranian TV.
