Run-Off Campaigning Set to Begin After Results Confirmation

The Iranian Constitutional Council has officially confirmed the results of the June 28 presidential election, clearing the way for the top two contenders to begin campaigning for the July 5 run-off election.

Iran (IMNA) - According to a statement from spokesman Hadi Tahan Nazif, the council has approved the validity of the first round of voting after no complaints were filed by any of the candidates. Campaigning for the second round will commence immediately and continue until 24 hours prior to the July 5 vote.

The election saw over 24 million Iranians cast their ballots to select a new president, following the tragic death of outgoing President Ebrahim Raeisi in a helicopter crash on May 19. However, none of the candidates secured the necessary votes to win outright, leading to a runoff between Masoud Pezeshkian and Saeed Jalili.
