Iran election 2024: Pezeshkian and Jalili in a Dead Heat

The vote counting is ongoing in Iran's snap presidential election, with preliminary results indicating a tight race between two top contenders.

Iran(ITMNA) - According to the latest update from Iran's election headquarters, former health minister Masoud Pezeshkian and former lead nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili are neck-and-neck in the running.

With nearly 25 million votes counted, Pezeshkian has secured 10,415,991 votes, while Jalili trails closely behind with 9,473,298 votes. Parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and former interior affairs minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi are lagging behind with 3,383,340 and 2,063,397 votes respectively.

Election spokesperson Mohsen Eslami has provided nine updates on the results so far, with the latest update coming at 11:37 a.m. local time. As the counting continues, Iranian citizens remain eager to see who will emerge victorious in the highly contested presidential election.
