Iran (IMNA) - The tragic incident unfolded when the helicopter carrying President Raeisi, along with key figures like Amir-Abdollahian, Governor Malek Rahmati, Friday Prayers leader Seyyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, and others, crashed in the Dizmar forest between Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azarbaijan Province. The delegation was returning from an event to inaugurate a dam on the Aras River with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The nation mourns the loss of President Raeisi, with Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei declaring a 5-day mourning period in Iran. Massive funeral ceremonies were held in Tabriz, Qom, and Tehran, drawing millions of mourners.
The body of President Raeisi arrived at Birjand Airport in South Khorasan province at 7 AM on Thursday, where a poignant ceremony awaited. President Raeisi, a revered figure representing the people of South Khorasan in the Assembly of Leadership Experts, was deeply respected and cherished by many.
Despite the scheduled start of the funeral at 7:30 AM, crowds of mourners had gathered an hour earlier, demonstrating the profound impact and respect for President Raeisi in the hearts of the people.
