Iran (IMNA) - In a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the rotating President of the UN Security Council, Iravani stated that the US allegations are "lies" aimed at justifying aggression and serving short-sighted political interests in the region.
The Iranian diplomat was responding to claims made by US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Robert Wood during a public UNSC meeting on May 13, as well as similar allegations by the US, UK, and France in an earlier meeting in April. Iravani emphasized that Iran is committed to UN Security Council resolutions on Yemen and has not engaged in any activities that contravene these resolutions. He reiterated Iran's support for a peaceful resolution to the Yemen crisis through diplomatic channels and its commitment to maritime security and freedom of navigation.
The denial comes amid a backdrop of escalating tensions in the region, with Yemen's armed forces launching military operations against Israeli-linked shipping in solidarity with Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. The US and UK have been providing military support to Israel, including air and missile strikes on Yemen, since mid-January. Iran has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and has denied any involvement in arming Yemeni forces.
