Iran (IMNA) - According to Kan'ani, the US government has attempted to distort the reality of student and academic anger, labeling the protests as "anti-Semitic" to justify the use of violent suppression tactics. He added that a significant number of Jewish students have expressed their disgust with the "hateful crimes of the Zionist regime" and the "shameful support of the US government."
The protests, which have taken place on more than 70 college campuses across 34 states, are demanding an end to US military aid to Israel and urging universities to divest from Israeli companies. However, the US authorities have responded with threats and outright violence, including the deployment of police, troops, and even snipers, as well as the use of tear gas and physical assaults against the peaceful protesters.
In some instances, such as at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), pro-Zionist counter-protesters have violently attacked student protesters, with little intervention from the police or campus security. Students face severe consequences for their peaceful demonstrations, including potential suspensions, evictions, expulsions, and criminal prosecutions.
Kan'ani's statement highlights the Iranian government's condemnation of the US government's actions, which he believes have revealed the "real faces" of those who claim to champion freedom of speech and human rights.
