Pakistan's Cabinet Committee on Energy Approves Construction of Iran-Pakistan (IP) Gas Pipeline, Amid Challenges and Financial Risks
The Pakistan Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) has given its approval for the commencement of the construction of an 80-kilometer pipeline from the Pak-Iran border to Gwadar. This decision comes after the project, initially launched in 2013, faced significant delays due to the challenges it posed for Pakistan amid international sanctions targeting Iran. The original requirement for Pakistan was to complete the pipeline construction on its territory by the end of 2014. However, the project's progress was hindered during this period. In case Pakistan decides to terminate the gas pipeline agreement, it may face a substantial fine of $18 billion.
