"Iran's Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Calls for UN Action on Removal from Commission on the Status of Women"

Iran's Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Ensieh Khazali, has urged the United Nations to address the "unjust decision" to remove Iran from the 45-nation Commission on the Status of Women.

Iran (IMNA) - The removal was initiated by the US in November 2022, following riots in Iran after the death of a young woman in police custody in Tehran. Khazali is currently attending the 68th annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York, focusing on gender equality and women's empowerment. During her meeting with the forum's chair, Philippines UN Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo, he acknowledged the Iranian delegation's participation and their candid positions presented during the gathering.

"Iran's Support for Afghan Immigrants and Gaza Praised by Lagdameo; Increased Collaboration between Iranian and Philippine Universities Suggested"

Lagdameo expressed appreciation for Iran's assistance in supporting Afghan immigrants and the people of Gaza. He mentioned that the decision to reintegrate Iran into the Commission on the Status of Women is for ECOSOC to decide, but they are working towards it. Lagdameo also praised the growth in Iranian women's scientific and technological abilities and encouraged more interaction between Iranian and Philippine universities.

Khazali highlighted Iran's cooperation with the commission in various meetings and dialogues focusing on gender equality and women's empowerment. She cited the success of the seventh IORA Working Group on Women's Economic Empowerment meeting in Tehran, which featured educational workshops for women in the IORA region. She noted that Iranian women make up 24% of the country's inventors, surpassing the global average.

Khazali also emphasized Iran's efforts for Afghan immigrants, citing the country's excellent health services for them. However, she criticized the cancellation of Iran's membership in the Commission on the Status of Women, suggesting that the Israeli regime, known for its human rights violations, should be the one excluded from the forum. Khazali called upon the United Nations to remove Israel from the commission, stating that the free people of the world expect such a regime responsible for decades of displacement, rape, and murder of millions of women and children not to have a seat in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
