Iran Rejects UN Report on 2022 Riots, Calls Human Rights Mechanisms "Plaything" of Regimes

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kan'ani, has dismissed a report by a United Nations-mandated mission regarding the 2022 riots in the country. In a statement on Saturday, Kan'ani criticized the UN Human Rights Council's Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that human rights mechanisms of the world body have been manipulated by certain regimes for illicit purposes.

Iran (IMNA) - The UN report, published on Friday, alleges that Iran's response to the riots following the death of a young Iranian woman in September 2022 constitutes serious human rights violations. Kan'ani denounced the report as unfounded and based on inaccurate and biased information, thus lacking legal credibility.

The Iranian diplomat accused Western governments, particularly Germany, of establishing and funding the so-called fact-finding mission as part of a "ridiculous show of human rights." He claimed that the mission's report consists of fabrications and lies intended to distort the truth.

Kan'ani argued that the report is an abuse of sublime human rights concepts and values for short-sighted political goals. He asserted that the report has no legal acceptability or effect and is a product of the Zionist regime, the United States, and some Western countries.

The spokesman further highlighted that the mission functions according to the schemes of its German, British, American, and Israeli founders, misusing UN human rights mechanisms to serve the illicit objectives of those regimes. He suggested that the initiators of the mission should address human rights violations in their own countries instead of interfering in Iran's affairs.

Kan'ani emphasized Iran's commitment to empowering women and girls, stating that their future will shape the nation. He also mentioned the formation of a special committee to investigate the 2022 unrest, with its final report recently submitted to President Ebrahim Raeisi.
