Iran's Foreign Minister Blasts US for Third UN Veto on Gaza Ceasefire Resolution

Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, has criticized the United States for vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for the third time.

Iran (IMNA) - The UN Security Council resolution demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, which has been under siege. Amir-Abdollahian referred to the move as a "diplomatic catastrophe of the century" and held the US responsible for Israel's actions in Gaza.

The US used its veto power to block the draft resolution that condemned the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians and called for compliance with international law. Representatives of 13 countries supported the resolution, while Britain abstained. This is the third time the US has vetoed similar resolutions in October and December.

Condemnations have been widespread, with countries like China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, and Slovenia criticizing the US move. Palestinian Ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, called the veto "absolutely reckless and dangerous" and expressed concern about the message it sends to Israel.

Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Condemns US Veto at UN Security Council

Nasser Kan’ani, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, criticized the veto by the United States at the UN Security Council. Kan’ani stated, "The veto confirms Iran's assessment that the US is directing the war in Gaza, preventing an end to the genocide, and allowing the killings of Palestinian civilians." He added that the US actions have endangered global peace and hindered the UN in fulfilling its mission to protect international security. Kan’ani expressed concern that the trust in the UN’s role in maintaining peace and security has been weakened by the actions of the United States.
