Iran (IMNA) - According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international cinema journalist, The Iraqi Foreign Minister Dr. Fuad Hussein visited Duhok International Film Festival's palace at Duhok University's Congregation Hall, officially welcomed by the festival president Amir Ali Mohammed Tahir, the movie star Bangin Ali, along with other people in charge of this cinematic event and later sat down to watch the documentary film “ Hiding Saddam Hussein” directed by Halkawt Mustafa from Norway and Kurdistan Region.
The foreign minister remarked in an interview with the festival's press crew, "of course, I am more than glad to attend this event and I have to thank each and everyone involved in holding this important and influential festival. Duhok Film Festival is a significant cultural and artistic event. We support all filmmakers coming here from all around the globe, warmly welcoming them. Their presence is a very valuable achievement for Duhok, Kurdistan Region, and specifically for the country of Iraq."
"As the Foreign Minister of Iraq, I believe that cultures should play a key role in international relations. That is why culture and art are a component of global politics, acting as soft power and not necessarily inferior to politics," added Fuad Hussein.
He also said, "Therefore, we are present here and declare our support for this event to be held in the city of Duhok, Kurdistan Region, after due collaboration with Iraq's Ministry of Culture and Art, and this invaluable effort is a service to the cinema industry and economy of Duhok as well."
The Iraqi Foreign Minister said in an interview with Duhok Festival's daily bulletin, "I like to watch movies in my free time. I was eager to attend Duhok International Film Festival as it is an important and prestigious artistic event, and one of the best festivals in Iraq and the Middle East."
He concluded his words in response to a question posed by an interviewer.
- Would you have liked to act in a film if you were not a politician?
- Had I not been a politician, I would have liked to become a screenwriter.
Presided by Amir Ali Mohammed Tahir and artistic management by the Kurdish director, Shawkat Amin Korki, the 10th round of Duhok International Film Festival is set to be held on 9-16 December, 2023, at Duhok University's congregation hall and the Duhok Mall Cineplex in Duhok, Kurdistan Region. Heralding the motto of "Mother Tongue (Kurdish)," this edition of Duhok will showcase 116 films by directors of different geographical backgrounds, in a variety of formats such as feature films, shorts, and documentaries in the two categories of competition and out-of-competition.
