Iran (IMNA) -Speaking at the 22nd Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, Ershadi emphasized the urgency of holding the Israeli regime accountable for its oppressive occupation lasting over 75 years. She highlighted the dire situation faced by the Palestinian nation, with innocent civilians, including women and children, being killed, lands confiscated, and homes destroyed on a daily basis. Iran's plea for accountability seeks to address the escalating human rights violations in the region.
Ershadi drew attention to the ongoing conflict between the Israeli regime and Gaza, which has resulted in a staggering death toll of over 17,200 people and left more than 45,000 others injured. The devastating war, triggered by a territorial operation by the resistance group in Gaza, has also left over 7,000 individuals missing and presumed dead under the rubble.
The extent of destruction is shocking, as half of the enclave has been leveled, sparing no place from the devastation. Civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, mosques, churches, schools, and other vital facilities have been mercilessly targeted, leading to the brutal slaughter of hundreds of innocent people. The envoy emphasized that these atrocities constitute serious crimes, including genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, leaving no doubt about the severity of the situation.
In a statement, she urged the court to treat the situation in Palestine with the same rigor and dedication as it does with other cases. She emphasized the importance of avoiding any appearance of bias or preferential treatment, and called for a rejection of any attempts to politicize the judicial process.
Furthermore, the Iranian official criticized the supporters and enablers of the Israeli regime for enabling continued acts of atrocity without consequences. They emphasized that this support only emboldens the occupying regime further.
