Iran Presents Three Proposals to Boost Tourism within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

Iran has submitted three proposals to the secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) aimed at promoting tourism among member states.

Iran (IMNA) - Moslem Shojaei, who heads the office for foreign tourism marketing and development at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, revealed that the initiatives include the selection of an annual tourism capital, the facilitation of visas, and the sharing of scientific and executive experiences among SCO countries.

Shojaei highlighted that the secretariat had designated 2023 as the year of tourism. As part of their efforts to celebrate this occasion, Iran invited SCO members to Urumqi, China, for a three-day event featuring specialized meetings, a summit, speeches, B2B negotiations, and city tours. The aim of the event was to discuss strategies for the development and enhancement of tourism within the SCO member countries.

During the event, Shojaei noted that the specialized meetings were conducted at a high level, with delegations from various governmental and private tourism sectors of China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. Additionally, B2B meetings and negotiations among private sector stakeholders in tourism took place on the sidelines of the summit.

In relation to Iran's proposals, Shojaei explained that the Islamic Republic of Iran has presented three specific suggestions to the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to further the development of tourism within the organization.

Iran Proposes Annual Selection of Tourism Capital, Calls for Enhanced Tourism Interactions within SCO

In an effort to ensure program continuity and foster collaborations, Iran has suggested the annual selection of a capital city from member countries as the tourism capital, according to an official statement. The proposal, which aims to promote tourism within the region, needs to be approved by the Secretariat before implementation.

During discussions, it was emphasized by all member countries that enhancing tourism interactions is of utmost importance. To achieve this goal, Iran proposed measures such as facilitating visa issuance, group visa waivers, or any other process approved by the SCO Secretariat. These measures aim to provide tourists with more comfortable travel experiences within the SCO region.

Additionally, the official highlighted the significance of education in the tourism sector. One of the proposals put forward by member countries is the utilization of each other's skill capacities and sharing scientific and executive experiences. This collaborative approach would enable countries to benefit from one another's expertise and enhance the overall tourism sector within the SCO.
