Iran (IMNA) - By the end of Mehr, the capacity of wind power plants reached 364.89 megawatts (MW), while solar power plants recorded a capacity of 477.65 MW. Additionally, small hydropower plants reached a capacity of 99.47 MW, and biomass power plants reached 12.53 MW.
Highlighting future plans, Mostafa Rajabi-Mashhadi, spokesperson of the Iranian Energy Ministry's electricity sector, announced that preparations have been made for the construction of renewable power plants with a total capacity of 6,900 MW across the country. Currently, the nominal capacity of Iran's renewable power plants stands at 1,090 MW, with a goal of adding 5,400 MW by the next Iranian calendar year, which begins in late March 2024.
Rajabi-Mashhadi expressed optimism that the increased share of renewable power plants in the country's electricity network will lead to a decrease in the use of fossil fuels in thermal power plants. This development aligns with the government administration's focus on accelerating the growth of renewable power plants since taking office in August 2021.
To attract more capital for new renewable projects nationwide, the Energy Ministry, under the 13th government, has introduced new investment packages and strategies. These initiatives aim to further enhance the development of renewable power plants in Iran.
In a noteworthy development, energy experts have lauded the investment models implemented by the 13th government, citing them as a strong impetus for investment within the sector. As a direct result of these measures, the country's renewable power plants have achieved an impressive capacity of 1,085 MW, a figure that is highly commendable.
Providing further insights, Mahmoud Kamani, the esteemed head of the nation's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), highlighted the consistent and daily growth of renewable power plant capacities in the country. Kamani emphasized that once the under-construction power plants are operationalized, this capacity will witness a significant boost.
