Iran (IMNA) -The accused company, which did not present itself in court to defend its actions, stands accused of supplying raw materials used in the production of poison gas. Meanwhile, another company involved in the same case was acquitted of liability by The Hague court. The court determined that this second company had no knowledge that the chemicals it sold to Saddam Hussein's government would be utilized in the creation of mustard gas.
The five Iranian victims, who were left with permanent injuries following three separate mustard gas attacks during the Iran-Iraq war in 1984 and 1986, argued that both companies were aware or should have been aware that thionyl chloride sold to Iraq would be utilized in mustard gas production.
Due to the non-appearance of Forafina Beleggingen I B.V., formerly known as KBS Holland, the court upheld the claim against the company. The precise amount of compensation has yet to be determined.
