Iran (IMNA) - The International Khorsheed Media Festival, according to organizers, will occur from September 29 to October 1. Over 100 women journalists from more than 40 countries will convene at the festival to exchange their experiences and perspectives on topics that are often overlooked by mainstream media outlets. Marzieh Hashemi, an American-Iranian broadcaster and host of Press TV, has been appointed as the festival's director for its inaugural edition. This year's festival is dedicated to the memory of Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian journalist who was tragically killed by Israeli forces in May 2022 in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin. The aim of the Khorsheed Media Festival, as stated by Hashemi, is to unite independent women in media worldwide to cover significant issues and amplify voices that are marginalized by mainstream media. The festival's inaugural edition is themed "Women narrate, illuminate, and initiate change," as indicated in the organizers' statement.
The organizers stated that the purpose of the event is to provide a platform for female journalists worldwide to discuss innovative approaches in journalism that revolve around ordinary individuals, particularly women and children. They described the festival as a forum for amplifying the voices of marginalized groups on an international scale. The topics covered during the three-day event will include women's presence in media and the promotion of social justice, the media's impact on the family institution, women's role in resistance through media, the normalization of violence against women by the media, and the connection between media and modern-day slavery.
