Iran (IMNA) - Despite the warm weather, all of the 80 historical sites and museums administered by this provincial tourism directorate were open and providing services to tourists, according to the official.
"During the three-day holidays last week, over 10,000 domestic and international travelers visited historical sites and museums in Isfahan province," the deputy provincial tourism head stated on Sunday.
"According to available data, Chinese tourists constitute the majority of foreign tourists visiting historical monuments in Isfahan province," stated Hamidreza Mohaqqeqan.
Domestic travel began across the country on Tuesday when the Iranian government proclaimed national vacations for the next two days owing to a heat wave that saw temperatures across the country reach record highs.
Domestic travel began across the country on Tuesday when the Iranian government proclaimed national vacations for the next two days owing to a heat wave that saw temperatures across the country reach record highs.
The decision was made after the meteorological service predicted temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in numerous places and hovering around 50 degrees Celsius in the southwest.
Isfahan, once a hub of international trade and diplomacy, is today one of Iran's most popular tourist destinations for good reason. It is brimming with architectural marvels like unparalleled Islamic structures, marketplaces, museums, Persian gardens, and tree-lined avenues. This is a city for walking about, getting lost in maze-like marketplaces, napping off in lovely parks, and meeting new people.
Isfahan has long been known as Nesf-e-Jahan, which translates as "half the world". It was also one of the largest cities in the region in its prime, with a population of about one million people.
Modern Isfahan has some heavy industry on its outskirts, including steel plants and a nuclear power plant, but its inner center wishes to be protected as a valuable treasure. The city also has a massive, professional, and cutting-edge healthcare city, which is a popular medical tourism destination.
