Iran (IMNA) - In a discussion with Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, on Monday outside of a BRICS national security meeting, Ajit Kumar Doval stated that Iran's participation in BRICS will increase its economic and political capabilities.
He declared that India will employ all legal and practical means to facilitate Iran's complete participation in the union.
In Johannesburg, South Africa, the thirteenth meeting of the BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security began on Monday.
Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa make up the BRICS Group, which is sometimes seen as a challenge to Western economic and political predominance.
According to the South African-based Institute for Security Studies, the five-nation group represents 26% of the world's GDP and 42% of the world's population.
Iran has made a formal application to join the BRICS, and it is one of several nations that do so.
For his part, Ahmadian cited the long-standing friendship between Tehran and New Delhi and urged deeper bilateral ties between the two nations.
He said that Tehran and New Delhi share similar concerns and stances in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, and Iran is ready to work with India on this front.
Doval said that the Chabahar Port in southeast Iran is crucial to advancing trade ties between the two nations.
He also demanded the elimination of any roadblocks to the growth of the harbor.
The Iranian security chief also cited Chabahar Port as an example of Tehran and New Delhi's collaboration and urged fast execution of their agreements in the areas of banking, energy, and transportation.
