Iran (IMNA) - Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the comments on Wednesday at a meeting with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah in Kuwait City. The senior diplomat is in Kuwait as part of a regional visit that will take him to the United Arab Emirates next.
As report by Amir-Abdollahian, the government of Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi prioritized the Islamic Republic's ties with its neighbors.
Iran will take the priority seriously since it considers that the nation's neighbors, particularly the Persian Gulf littoral states, have significant points of commonality and capacity for collaboration with the country, he added.
Meanwhile, the foreign minister emphasized the need of strengthening economic, commercial, and transit relations with Kuwait, as well as political and security discussions between the two countries.
Iran confronts no limitations in developing its relations with Kuwait in areas of mutual interest, he added, extending an invitation to Kuwaiti opposite number to visit the Islamic Republic.
Proposal for establishing a regional assembly
Iran, according to Amir-Abdollahian, has suggested the creation of a regional assembly comprised of the states bordering the Persian Gulf to the north and south.
Such an assembly, if formed, could play a constructive role in promoting convergence and collaboration among the region's countries, he said, adding that Kuwait could play an important role in forming such a body given its positive role in this respect.
The Kuwaiti official, for his part, expressed joy at the Iranian official's visit to his nation, describing the countries' relations as historical and characterized by good neighborliness.
Tehran and Kuwait City should work to strengthen their connections in all sectors, according to Al Sabah.
He attributed the depth and neighborliness of the countries' connections to the presence of over 30,000 Iranian nationals in Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's Prime Minister praised the recent rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying it benefited regional relations, and stated that his country welcomed Iran's initiatives aimed at strengthening the Islamic Republic's relations with Arab states.
