Iran, Saudi Arabia to introduce ambassadors soon

A Saudi delegation visited Iran to follow up on the matter of reopening diplomatic offices in Tehran and Mashhad, according to Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, who made the announcement on Monday.

Iran (IMNA) - Kanaani told reporters that Saudi envoys arrived in Tehran on Saturday and are presently trying to restore the Saudi embassy and consulate in Mashhad.

He also stated that an Iranian delegation will visit Saudi Arabia in the coming days to set the framework for the reopening of the embassy in Riyadh, as well as the general consulate and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) mission in Jeddah.

The reopening of embassies in Riyadh and Tehran follows a Chinese-brokered agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia in March and a meeting of the two countries' foreign ministers in Beijing in early April.

In reaction to recent diplomatic attempts to terminate Saudi Arabia's attack on Yemen, Kanaani declared that Iran supports prolonging a cease-fire that would allow the impoverished nation's blockade to be lifted and humanitarian aid to be given to its population.

Kanaani went on to say that Iran is still involved in Oman's peace endeavors in Yemen and has always played a positive role in this regard.
