Iran (IMNA) - The 200-kilometer pipeline will increase gas supply to regional domestic customers while allowing Iran to demonstrate its ability to supply gas to Oman, according to Reza Noshadi, the head of the National Iranian Gas Company's engineering division, who made the statement on Tuesday. The pipeline runs from Minab in southern Iran to Kuhmobarak on the Sea of Oman.
According to Noshadi, a 120-kilometer part of the pipeline from Minab to Sirik is about 87% complete, and construction on the second segment, from Sirik to Kuhmobarak, has begun in February.
He stated that the pipeline will be linked to the seventh leg of Iran's gas pipeline system, and that the gas supply for the pipeline will come from South Pars, the world's largest gas field, which is located on the Persian Gulf's maritime border between Iran and Qatar.
Noshadi noted that in order to begin exporting gas to Oman, Iran will need more supplies from countries like Russia as part of exchange agreements.
According to the source, Iran's new export capacity would increase with the extension of gas pipes to coastal regions in the southeast of the country.
