Iran (IMNA) - "The window of communication is still open, and one of the subjects of the talk with Mr. Lavrov is the JCPOA and the return of signatories to their commitments," Amir-Abdollahian told reporters following his arrival in Moscow on Tuesday.
The JCPOA was inked in 2015 by Iran, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China.
Nevertheless, Trump abandoned the agreement in May 2018 and slapped harsh penalties on Iran, putting the deal's survival in doubt.
In April 2021, talks between the JCPOA's signatories commenced in Vienna with the aim of getting the US back into the accord and ending its "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran.
The talks, however, have been stalled since August 2022 owing to Washington's refusal to release all anti-Iran sanctions and provide the required guarantees that it would not withdraw from or breach the agreement again.
"Our Russian colleagues continue to make attempts to bring all parties back to their obligations."
"Of course, the JCPOA will be one of the topics covered," he added.
Amir-Abdollahian further stated that the US sanctions program has failed, adding, "The Islamic Republic considers that sanctions are a tool for economic terrorism against states."
It centered on using the opportunity fueled by sanctions for the country's growth.
We consider that the present sanctions strategy is unproductive, wrong, and a terrorist war against nations."
The Iranian foreign minister also expressed delight with the growing economic, commercial, political, cultural and tourist, security, and defense ties between Tehran and Moscow.
When asked about the United States' worries over Iran-Russia defense relations, he underlined that such collaboration will not be directed against any third country.
He also stated that the amount of commerce between Iran and Russia has expanded by more than 3.5 times in the previous year and a half.
