Iran (IMNA) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi has described the matter of schoolgirls being poisoned while attending classes as a "crime and an atrocious act" committed by the country's enemies.
"The enemy's new scheme of instilling fear in the hearts of students and their parents is a crime and an inhumane act," Raeisi stated during a cabinet meeting on Sunday.
To calm people's fears, the president directed Iranian officials to investigate the matter as soon as possible and to inform them of its whereabouts.
He stressed that the act is "another link in the chain of the enemy's conspiracies" to cause unrest in the country, mislead public opinion, and invoke fear among students.
The Iranian president emphasized the need of locating and prosecuting the key malefactors.
Some Iranian schoolgirls have experienced symptoms of poisoning while attending schools since November 2022. Before spreading to other locations, the first incident occurred in the city of Qom.
Most students reported breathing issues, nausea, exhaustion, and disorientation; some even required hospitalization.
The Iranian President stated on Friday that he has ordered the intelligence and interior ministers with investigating the poisoning incidents.
Recently, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani, claimed the country has lately been targeted by an intensifying media campaign to distract attention from the Israeli regime's turmoil and internal problems.
Massive and occasionally violent protests have been erupted in Israel in recent months against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right cabinet.
Israelis are outraged by his initiatives, particularly his purported judicial changes.
