Iran, Venezuela boost ties to curb foreign pressures

Venezuela and Iran are considering ways to step up their cooperation in a number of areas, and quickly implement cooperative projects, urging increased attentiveness in the face of US-backed foreign pressures.

Iran (IMNA) - The plans were addressed during a meeting between Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Caracas on Friday.

The meeting focused on how to put memorandums of understanding and joint projects between Tehran and Caracas into action.

Both Maduro and Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the importance of fostering communication between government representatives of the two nations.

Amir-Abdollhian marked Maduro's visit to Iran in mid-June last year as a watershed moment in bilateral relations, and urged increased collaboration.

Maduro, for his part, emphasized the importance of improving bilateral ties by highlighting Venezuela and Iran's extensive experience in dealing with similar problems.

Amir-Abdollahian also emphasized the importance of expediting the implementation of joint economic projects against the backdrop of the agreements reached by officials from the two countries.

The top Iranian diplomat also addressed the Ukraine conflict, criticizing Western governments for protracting the crisis and using human rights as a tool to further their political interests.

Furthermore, Amir-Abdollahian met separately with Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuelan politician serving as the vice president of Venezuela, Minister of Petroleum Tareck El Aissami, and President of the Venezuelan National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez, during which he urged closer political, parliamentary, and energy cooperation between the two countries.
