“The Exam” Receives 43rd Cairo International Film Festival UNFPA Prize

The feature film “The Exam” directed by Shawkat Amin Korki earned the United Nations Population Fund prize in the 43rd edition of Egypt’s Cairo International Film Festival.

Iran (IMNA) - “The Exam”, a feature film directed by Shawkat Amin Korki, produced by Mehmet Aktas and co-produced by Iraqi Kurdistan, Germany and Qatar; had its latest world screening in the competition category UNFPA World Panorama in the 43rd round of Cairo International Film Festival in Egypt, succeeding to secure the prize.

This fourth feature film of Shawkat Amin Korki is co-produced by Mitos Film in Berlin and Masti film in Sulaymaniyah. The German company ArtHood is to screen ‘The Exam’ internationally.

UNFPA Egypt Assistant Representative Germaine Haddad and Eman Abdel Gelil presented the award at the festival’s closing ceremony.

The award comes in light of UNFPA’s close collaboration with Bayer Middle East, and their shared values and support for population programs in Egypt, as well as to encourage filmmakers and industry experts to tackle social issues and highlight the impact of art and cinema in addressing population growth, family planning, empowerment of young people and gender equality.

The 43rd Cairo International Film Festival, presided by Mohamed Hefzy and jury president Emir Kusturica, is one of the oldest Middle East festivals, showcasing more than 100 films from directors all around the world, in the two categories of competition and out of competition, held from 26 November to 5 December, 2021 in Cairo, Egypt.
