Citizens' involvement in urban management step for democracy

A web-based application called "Jahan Nema" has been developed by the Municipality of Isfahan to strengthen citizen-government relationship; citizens will be able to register their complaints and make recommendations for changes through the platform.

Iran (IMNA) - Isfahan city map, special information about bus and metro lines, the possibility of monitoring the real-time traffic information and some other services that were previously active in the Municipal Service Desk are provided in this application.

Isfahan Municipality’s Director General for Communications and International Affairs Iman Hojjati said, "The General Directorate of Communications has launched the 137 Citizen Call Centre to increase people's involvement in urban management. The body is committed to follow up on citizens' issues through municipal deputies, responsive organizations and different administrations affiliated to the municipality. We decided to expand the ways of communication with 137; so, a citizen friendly app calling Jahan Nema developed in cooperation with the ICT department of the Municipality of Isfahan to strengthen the relationship between citizens and urban management agents."

Referring to the possibility of providing active services through this system, he clarified, "The reporting and citizens' suggestions system in this application is location-based; therefore, the registered issues will be monitored and followed up. In addition, the map of Isfahan with the information needed by citizens including the nearest waste stations, bus stations, libraries and cultural centers are embedded in this application. "

"Special information on bus and metro lines, full visibility of the real-time traffic updates and a number of other services that were previously active in the Municipal Service Desk are provided in this application that can be extended, " Isfahan Municipality’s Director General for Communications and International Affairs said.

"One of the key doctrines of urban management program was the realization of a smart city, which requires the participation of people in benefits as well as their supervisory role," Ghodratollah Norouzi, the mayor of Isfahan said.

Norouzi ended, "Participation is a two-way street, which means that in addition to providing infrastructure, attracting people's participation is also of special importance; citizens' involvement in urban management is a big step for democracy."
