Ancient skeleton of a Parthian girl dug up  in Isfahan

The skeleton of a teenage girl with about 160 cm height, who lived in Parthian era, has been dug up from Tappeh Ashraf (Ashraf Hill), the sole archaeological hill in Isfahan, the excavation director Ali Reza Jafari-Zand said.

Iran (IMNA) - The senior archaeologist said that a raised platform in which the skeleton has been uncovered is also the burial site of a horse; this indicates that the girl was entombed with her horse.

Aforetime, A skeleton belonging to a lady from Parthian era disinterred from northern part of Tappeh Ashraf on July 25.

Evidences have led archeologists to form an opinion that they are close to a necropolis dating back to the Parthian era (247 BC – 224 CE) which will roll down the window to deep understanding of the Parthian era.

Presenting the discovery in detail, the senior archeologist noted that the manner through which the body had been buried indicates that her interment was performed in Mithraism rites.

The Parthian Empire, also known as the Arsacid Empire, was a major Iranian political and cultural power in ancient Iran.

The Parthians largely adopted the art, architecture, religious beliefs, and royal insignia of their culturally heterogeneous empire, which encompassed Persian, Hellenistic and regional cultures.
