Iran (IMNA) - Qazvin was the capital city of the Safavid Dynasty for the first 57 years of its rule, and even after the Safavid era came to an end, the city remained an important hub for trade and culture in Iran. There are numerous historical landmarks throughout the city of Qazvin and The Sa’d al-Saltaneh Caravanserai is among the top attractions every visitor needs to see during their stay in Qazvin. This caravanserai is named after its builder, Sa’d al-Saltaneh Isfahani.
Sa’d al-Saltaneh Caravanserai was built during the Qajar Dynasty by the rule of Nasereddin Shah (who ruled from 1848 to 1896), and is the largest urban caravanserai in Iran. The caravanserai is located right next to the bazaar of Qazvin and is 6,000 ㎡ big with a square foundation. The complex consists of 7 yards, a bazaar, and a dedicated bathhouse.
In the recent years, the caravanserai has been renovated, and as a result, some parts of the caravanserai give off a rather modern feeling. Like most other caravanserais of Iran, Sa’d al-Saltaneh Caravanserai has lost its original usage and is now mostly an authentic historic landmark of the city. The calm and covered bazaar of this complex is full of small shops offering jewelry, handicrafts, carpets, paintings, and ceramics as well as cafes and restaurants in a relaxing atmosphere.
