Iran (IMNA) - Local people believe that Takht-e Soleyman was the birthplace of Zoroaster. It used to be a large educational and social center and a place of worship in the pre-Islamic era, but it was ruined in 624 A.D. by a major attack led by Heraclius, the Byzantine Emperor.
There is a round fortified platform around the entire site, with the height of 60 meters above the surrounding plains. A number of lakes, hot springs, ancient graves, and some historical sites are surrounding the ruins of the site that dates back to the Sassanid era. It has an area of about 124000 square meters.
The natural elements of the Takht-e Soleyman area are artesian lake and a volcano. A conical, hollow mountain shaped thousands of years ago called Prison of Solomon with the height of about 100 meters above the surrounding plans was a place in which Solomon imprisoned disobeyed demons.
The mystery lake with 60 meters diameter was also just a spring in the distant past. The water of the lake is recharged with an aquifer; the temperature of the water does not change both in winter and summer; it remains about 21 degree centigrade.
According to the people living in this area, there is city at the bottom of the lake that the Prophet Soleyman has hidden his treasures there, but unfortunately everybody who have gone to the bottom of the lake to find them has not returned.
One of the most unique phenomenon around Takht-e Soleyman is called "floating grass" which attracts many visitors. It seems that grass is floating there; some people believe that it is due to the rotation of the ground, but others consider natural causes and wind as the main reason of this phenomenon.
