Zaman Khan Bridge

Many historical bridges have been constructed over the Zayandeh-Rood River. One of the most famous one is ZamanKhan that is situated 27 kilometers away of Shahr-e Kord city.

Iran (IMNA) -  The bridge is known as one of tourism attractions due to the pleasant climate and natural landscape surrounding there. It is registered in the list of Iran's national monument, with the registration number of 1744.

Before constructing the bridge, Zagros mountaineers nomads were forced to cross the Zayandeh-Rood River. So they experienced much difficulty, and sometimes their children lost their lives. Therefore, ZamanKhan who was one of the elders of Qashqai tribe, ordered to build a bridge on the path of the nomad migration; this is the reason for naming the bridge.

The short historical arch bridge which is 32 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and 12 meters above the river was built during the Safavid era, but some people believe that remnants of a Sassanid bridge was the base of Zamankhan Bridge.

The bridge has two arched openings which are located on three stone foundations. The middle foundation is situated at the center of the river, and a hollow hatch had been placed on top of the bridge in order to reduce the weight of the structure. To strengthen the bridge, it was constructed on a rock which is located in the bend of the river. Materials used to construct this monument are plaster and mortar. You can enjoy rafting on the Zayandeh Rood River when you reach to the bridge.
