Seven Persian Symbol of New Year

On the eve of the Persian New Year, Iranian are getting ready to welcome Nowrouz; just before Nowrouz, families gather around the special table called Haft-Seen in order to celebrate the New Year. In the Persian language, the word Haft refers to the magic number of seven, and the letter "S" indicates seven main items on the table that start with the letter S(Seen in Persian).

Iran (IMNA) - Each item in the Haft-Seen Table symbolizes something positive for the coming year: Senjed (Wild olives) symbolizes love and affection, Somaq (sumac); sunrise and the spice of life, Sib (apple); health and beauty, Sekkeh (coin); wealth and prosperity, Sir (garlic); good health, Samanu (a sweet pudding made from wheat); sweetness of life, and Sabzeh (sprouted wheat grass); rebirth and renewal of nature.

Some other items also can be included in the table according to the beliefs of each family; mirror, goldfish, candles, colored eggs, Divan-e Hafiz which is the book of famous Persian poet, or Shahnameh that is the long Persian epic poem.
