Iran (IMNA) - “Cities provide huge opportunities to improve the quality of life. More than 80 percent of Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) is due to the urbanization which is an important factor for the sake of development. Cities, whether small or big, are the largest sources of different ideas and communications in the world and capable of creating fantastic opportunities,” UNICEF representative in Iran continued.
“At the first national conference on child-friendly city in Isfahan, I like to bring to your notice that the new urban agenda on housing and sustainable urban development was investigated on October 20, 2016. Throughout the world, urbanization stands for equality which enabled all people to have equal access to urban facilities. This point of view is based on the science of urban design which has set special standards for development, management, and improvement of urban areas," Parks added.
He pointed out that any progress in urban development will be fulfilled through observing children’s rights approved by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. “Initiatives of child-friendly cities will bring the stakeholders together in order to create safe and inclusive cities based on sustainability, intelligence, resiliency and healthy and green centered concepts. Generally, all of these elements will be realized under the axes set out in new urbanization agenda," he said.
“The most important involved features in every child- friendly city are urban planners and local communities that are supposed to respond to children’s needs in respect to urban matters and also apply children and adolescent’s ideas in decision-making processes,” Parks pointed out.
