Isfahan (IMNA)_ “From a professional urban design point of view of, one of the components that shapes a city is the city space which can be divided into different categories. Naghsh-e-Jahan square, Chahar Bagh, and Zayanderood are as examples of such city spaces," Mahmoud Shokuhi said.
He considered the city entrances as a prominent city components, and added: “The city entrances are one of the components which keep in people’s minds. It is a sign that can illustrate the city identity.” A member of the faculty of Isfahan University of Art stated: “In the past, as the city entrances were considered as the main components of a city, they were designed in such a way so that they meet the passengers and residents’ needs. However, these elements have been laid aside in the contemporary era, and changed to a place for passing cars; these city entrances don’t illustrate the city identity.”
“One of the biggest misconception is that many people take the city entrances as the place where people enter the city through vehicles. However, the city entrances include the train and airplane stations as well,” He continued. “The entrance space of the cities should be designed in a way that the passengers’ minds slowly being prepared to enter a new city. One of its solutions in this regard is installing urban elements to show the city identity,” this expert emphasized. He stressed: “Paying attention to the entrance symbols and its construction according to the city identity can attract tourists, preserve the city culture, and it can be a step toward sustainable urban development."
